MY THOUGHTS (SPOILERS BELOW)

The final Bloodwing Academy books had a lot to accomplish and to wrap up. The end of the third book left us in absolute chaos with the city in ruins, Florence and Regan captured, and Blake running off in despair after a botched attempt to rid himself of his dragon.

I enjoyed the call back to Medra’s beginnings and the tie in to Briar’s related series. I enjoyed Regan’s redemption and the triad that formed between her, Kage, and Lysander. It was interesting to get to see the Dwarves more and to learn about their part in all of this.

Critically, I think that this book did what a lot of fantasy series’ do – rush the ending to wrap everything up neatly. I do wish that the series would have been plotted out more ahead of time to help the pacing at the end. Blake’s eventual love of Medra was such a quick 180 turn around and I would have liked to spend some more time with that struggle.

I still adore Briar’s writing and I think that this is overall a five-star series. However, this wasn’t my favorite book in the series and I found my attention wandering quite a bit.
